Beylier obtained good results with Australian sandalwood oil (Santalum spicatum) against the golden staphylococcus whereas the chemicallyalmost identical Indian sandalwood oil (Santalum album) has been reported to have negligible activity. Skin disorders and Australian Sandalwood
Australian sandalwood oil was found to have antiviral activity against human papilloma virus and Herpex simplex I and II, the oil is also recommended for bacterial and fungal skin infections. The oil appears to be effective in the management of conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and various scalp irritations, also for treatment of oily skin and acne.
Respiratory System disorders and Australian Sandalwood
The anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties of Australian Sandalwood will assist in alleviating the symptoms of cold such as sore throat, tonsillitis, earache and sinusitis. The oil can also be used to alleviate the symptoms of asthma by relaxing muscles which spasm during an attack, and reduce swelling and irritation. Recommendations for Use:
Mode of application - topical application – massage, bath, ointment, skin care;
Inhalation – cold (or direct inhalation) and steam inhalation, diffuser, compress.
Aroma massage: mix 5-10 drops with 15 ml of carrier oil. Blending with other oils is recommended
Aroma Bath: blend 5 - 7 drops with about 10 ml of a neutral base, like bubble bath or shampoo. Then add to bath water. When blended with other oils, sandalwood also is a fixative, stabilizes aroma of blend.
Cosmetics: add 5-7 drops to base cream for anti-aging, antibacterial and moisturising effects.
Cold (or direct) inhalation: Place 1-2 drops on aroma stone or medallion, or your handkerchief.
Facial Steam bath: pour 2-3 drops to hot water. Duration: 5-7 min. Avoid contact of steam with eyes.
Diffuser or Oil burner: great by its own and in combination with other essential oils.
